Linda's leaving service

(Linda pictured in Packington Church)

Measham Church was full on Sunday 3rd January as we gathered to say our farewells to Linda Cox.  Linda is leaving us at the end of her curacy in the Woodfield Team of churches. A curacy is a time of training and Linda is now ready and able to take on her own set of parishes. She has been appointed as Rector of Baschurch, Weston Lullingfields and Hordley in the Diocese of Lichfield.

Our farewells were set in the context of a communion service at which Linda preached and presided, and at which we sang her favourite hymns. In the middle though we had farewell speeches and the giving of gifts to Linda. Each parish had their thank you time so:

Pat Thomas for Donisthorpe               Frank Mugglestone for Normanton    Brian Abraham for Measham

Carolle Melville for Packington        Sue Bradley for the Appleby Group

All sorts of secrets were shared, and great appreciation shown for all that Linda has brought to the Woodfield Team in her three and a half years with us. Then Vivien had to have her say:

And we presented our gifts to Linda: a framed picture with photos with all nine Team churches, a case for oils of baptism, healing and unction and then a picture of the stole we have ordered but not yet received. And Linda's reply at last!

Linda herself gave gifts: she had bought a storage unit for children's resources as children's work has been so much the centre of her attention but in addition for each church, a picture of the face of Jesus made up of photos of us all.

We had to follow all that with tea and cake: lots of it!!

Goodbye Linda and we wish you and Martyn well in your new home and parishes.

God bless you
