Our Hospitality
Not long before the COVID pandemic hit, we re-ordered the area at the back of our church, removing some pews, creating a disabled toilet and greatly enhancing the kitchen facilities which we have. This has enabled us to make the best use of the space available and to offer a great deal more hospitality in terms of social gatherings where food and drink are on offer. Thus, as well as serving drinks after our services, we regularly hold events, as described below, which are relaxed and informal and have proved to be very popular, clearly meeting a need for people just to gather together in a friendly atmosphere, and talk – and eat of course! Coffee and chat – and delicious home-made cake! – is held once a month in church on a Wednesday morning from 10am to 12 noon, when around 25 ladies (and one or two gentlemen – any men reading this, do come along, we should love to see you!) gather together and enjoy the refreshments and one another’ s company and from time to time are joined by passing walkers. Tea afternoons - 2 or 3 times a year our morning sessions are augmented by tea afternoons held from 2.30pm to 4.30pm – no fixed day but often a Friday. On these occasions we may be joined by a few mums and children as they come out of school. Light lunches - Every 6 months or so, again on a week-day, our kitchen opens at 12 noon and we serve soup, a roll and a pudding – not just one soup but a choice of 3 or 4, all home made of course, and the men seem to enjoy this event as well as the ladies! We also serve lunches on a Sunday on special occasions, this year on New Year’s Day and also on the Coronation week-end, when our menu consisted of jacket potatoes with a choice of filling or quiche and salad, followed by dessert, and recently we offered a Harvest Ploughman’s lunch following a united service for the whole Team. In these instances we added a celebratory feel by including a glass of wine, which no doubt added to the appeal of what turned out to be most enjoyable community occasions. Ladies Group - Our Ladies Group offers hospitality in the form of a warm welcome and an opportunity to hear interesting speakers on a wide variety of topics as well as enjoying a Christmas meal, a coffee morning, a trip to a place of interest and much more! There is plenty of time to chat with friends and to make new ones and it has proved to be a very popular group with some 35 members. It meets once a month, usually on a Wednesday afternoon in church at 2.30pm. |
